  1. Cleistogamous flowers are those in which the stigma and anther are near each other in a closed flower.
  2. These flowers are autogamous (self-pollinating) because they do not open at all, due to which the pollen grain from the anther of the same flower pollinates the stigma of the same flower.
  3. Thus, cross-pollination does not occur.
