Question

Give reason for “speed of sound is different in different medium ”

Open in App
Solution

  1. Sound travels at different speeds in different medium due to difference density of molecules in different mediums.
  2. Higher the density of molecules - faster the sound travels and lower the density - slower the sound travels.
  3. For example the speed of sound in steel (solid) is 5000m/sand slowest through gas (air) 340m/s.

Hence due to difference in density of molecules in different medium sound travels with different speed.
