Give reason for the following:
Dilute sulphuric acid can not be replaced by concentrated acid in the preparation of hydrogen.

Open in App
Solution

Concentrated sulphuric acid is a strong oxidizing agent which produces the sulphur dioxide gas instead of hydrogen.

So, we can not use concentrated sulphuric acid in place of dilute sulphuric acid for the preparation of hydrogen.
That is,

Zn+2H2SO4ZnSO4+SO2+2H2O
