Give reason for the following:
Though lead is above hydrogen in the reactivity series, it does not react with dilute hydrochloric acid or dilute sulphuric acid.

Lead appears not to react with dil. HCl and dil. $H_{2} S O_{4}$ because a layer of lead chloride or lead sulphate is formed from the initial reaction between the lead and the dil. acid.
This layer is insoluble in water and quickly forms a coating around the metal which prevents the further production of hydrogen.
