Give reason for the following.

Water cannot be used as a thermometric liquid.

  1. Water cannot be used in a thermometer because of its higher freezing point and lower boiling point than other liquids.
  2. If water is used in a thermometer, it will start phase change at 0°C and 100°C and it can not able to measure the temperature out of this range.

Hence, water cannot be used as a thermometric liquid.
