Question

Give reason

(iii) Oil spill adversely affects the aquatic life

Open in App
Solution

The oil spill is set free of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the surroundings due to human mistakes that may cause contamination in water.

Reasons:

  1. Oil opens out on the water surface and forms a fine coating called an oil stick.
  2. As a result of air contamination, oil sticks break the bond between water and air. Animals in such water bodies lose their lives as a result of this action.
  3. Oil is an offending property for fur-bearing mammals, sea otters, etc. This affects the water body’s foods, lungs, immune function, and replication.
  4. When adult fish are exposed to oil may lead to less growth and an increase in the size of livers, and respiration rate.
