Lead(Pb) is not used in the preparation of hydrogen because it reacts with dilute sulphuric acid(H₂SO₄ ) or hydrochloric acid (HCl) and forms an insoluble coating of lead sulphate(PbSO₄) or lead chloride (PbCl₂).
$Pb (s) + H_{2} {SO}_{4} (aq .) \to {PbSO}_{4} (aq .) + H_{2} (g)$
