There is no reason for this. The asthenosphere is the name given to the ​the upper layer of the earth's mantle. Lithosphere is the rigid outer part of the earth that floats over the asthenosphere. Hence, the lithosphere floats over the asthenosphere by definition of these terms. There is no reason for this.
