The people assembled there for two reasons one to protest against the government’s new repressive measures and Others had come to attend the annual Baisakhi fair.The ban was proclaimed on any kind of mass gathering, meetings, processions.The people protest nonviolently against the arrest of two nationalists leaders- Dr. Satyapal and Dr. Saifuddin Kitchlew.To stop such protests and create an environmentt of terror General Dyer ordered his troops to fire on the peaceful crowd.
