Question

give reason why the molecule of a oxygen is stable but an atom of Oxygen is unstable

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Monoatomic oxygen which is very reactive and very unstable is called nascent oxygen. It is very reactive and unstable due to its electronegativity. It shares ist electrons with other elements and forms oxides.
It is said to be monoatomic.
It has a high tendency to react with other nascent oxygen to form an oxygen molecule (O2), which is quite stable.
