Solution

(a) Aquatic plants and animals are able to survive in water as water contains dissolved oxygen which is taken inside their body by specially designed organs like gills and by the general body surface in plants.
(b) This is because the oxygen in the air trapped in the inverted glass is used up and the candle does not get any more oxygen for burning.
(c) It is because when they climb mountains, as altitude increases, the amount of oxygen level in the atmospheric air decreases as trees are not found at higher altitudes.

  • The air pressure gets lower as the altitude increases.
  • At the top of the mountain, the air pressure is too low that it is insufficient for oxygen to selectively permeate into the blood.
  • Hence, mountaineers tend to carry pressurized oxygen cylinders on high mountains.

(d) When liquid is heated vapors are formed which appear in the form of bubbles.
