Solution

(A) When the stomach is empty, there are signals send to the brain to release certain hormones like ghrelin which increase the appetite and stimulate the feeling of hunger. There are gastric contractions in the stomach and the intestines which cause the feeling to eat.
(B) When the stomach is filled with food, there are signals generated which cause the neurotransmitters to release so that the individual feels satiety. The brain releases the hormone which decreases the appetite and a person stops eating when the stomach is filled with food.
(C) There are taste buds that responsible for the taste and there are olfactory receptors which are responsible for smell. During the cold, the mucus blocks this region and the impulse cannot reach the brain. Thus, the taste cannot be identified.
(D) There is a layer of pectin on the outer surface of the grapefruit. This prevents the sugars from coming out and be tasted by the taste buds. The taste of the fruit cannot be known until it is torn or chewed.
