Solution

(a) Water is a conductor of electricity, so it can easily conduct electric current and cause danger of electric shocks or short-circuits. Therefore, water can not be used to control the fire involving electrical equipment.

Water fire extinguishers are suitable for fighting fires involving solid combustibles.

(b)

LPG is a better domestic fuel than wood due to the following reasons:

  • LPG doesn’t release smoke

and other pollutants. Hence, it is a cleaner fuel.

  • Has better fuel efficiency than that of wood.

Wood on other hand, produces a lot of smoke and pollution.

(c) Paper catches fire easily due to its low ignition temperature. When it is wrapped around an aluminum pipe, being a good conductor of heat, it absorbs the heat supplied to paper and the paper does not attain its ignition temperature. As a result, the paper does not catch fire.
