Solution

Throat infection:

Throat infection is also known as sore throat and is caused by a viral or bacterial infection. A sore throat can result in inflammation of the throat.

Reasons for gargling with saline water:

  1. Saline water is a hypertonic solution and when we gargle using saline water, osmosis occurs.
  2. Gargling with a higher percentage of salt draws the liquid or moisture out of the swollen throat tissues and bacterial pathogens.
  3. This results in the lysis of bacterial pathogens and reduces the inflammation of the throat and reduces irritation.
