Corrosion: When metal comes into contact with water or air, oxygen, or some other corrosive chemical then metals corrodes. This process is called corrosion.

  • In the corrosion process metal forms metal oxides.
  • For example, rusting of iron
  • Nitric acid is corrosive in nature.
  • They can react with a rubber cork or plastic.
  • Thus, The apparatus used for the laboratory preparation of nitric acid is made of glass completely because the vapours of nitric acid are highly corrosive.
