a. Milk is called a liquid.

b. Carbon dioxide is a gas.

Solution

a.

  1. Milk is called a liquid because it has properties of liquids such as it has a definite volume but not a defined shape as liquids take the shape of the container.
  2. Due to the weak intermolecular force of attraction, liquids can flow.
  3. Liquids have their boiling points above room temperature.

Milk has all these properties that's why milk is called liquid.

b. Carbon dioxide is gas because it has the properties of gases.

→ Gases have neither a fixed volume nor a fixed shape since it completely fills the vessel in which it is kept.

→ It has high compressibility as the intermolecular force of attraction in gases is the lowest.

→ It exerts pressure on the walls of the container due to collisions of the molecules on the walls of the container.

As Carbon dioxide (CO2) has all the properties of gases it is a gas.
