Give reasons for the following :

For electroplating with silver, silver nitrate is not used as electrolyte.

Open in App
Solution

  • Electroplating is a process in which one metal is coated over other using electricity.
  • Silver nitrate is not used during the electroplating process because it will make the deposition of silver very fast.
  • Due to the fast process, the deposition of silver will not be smooth and uniform.
  • So, we use sodium argentocyanide (Na[Ag(Cn)2]) which will make the deposition of silver smooth and uniform.
