Solution

Heat islands are generally urban areas or more specifically metropolitan cities. With increasing industrialization and urbanisation the temperature in metro cities also increased as compared to adjoining rural areas. Man-induced activities and also increasing population pressure are responsible for this. The effect of greenhouse gases is more in cities. That is why 'heat island' is considered as an urban phenomenon.
