Give reasons for the following.

Helium does not react with other elements.

Solution

  • Helium being the first noble gas in the periodic table has electronic configuration 2.
  • It has its duplet filled with 2 electrons and has a stable configuration.
  • Thus it doesn't accept or give up electrons from it's own shell, therefore Helium is a stable atom and we do not get any covalent/ionic compounds with helium.
  • Thus Helium has zero valency.
