Solution

The mixture of concentrated sulphuric acid and sodium nitrate must not be heated above 200oC because of the following reasons:
  1. Nitric acid will decompose into nitric oxide gas.
  2. Potassium or sodium sulphate will be formed, which may stick to the glass walls and cannot be removed easily.
  3. Glass apparatus may also break.
