Lime water turns milky when it comes in contact with air.

  • Lime water is the aqueous form of calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2]. When it is exposed to air, it turns into milky due to the formation of calcium carbonate(CaCO3). This is because air contains carbon dioxide.
