1. Algae are primitive rootless plants which are generally found in aquatic environment.
2. Nutrients such as proteins, vitamins and minerals are abundantly found in some edible algae.
3. Red algae such as Porphyra and Chondrus are a rich source of protein, vitamin and minerals.
4. Chlorella is a green algae which is rich in proteins and vitamins and is even used by space travellers as food supplements.
5. Laminaria and Sargassum are marine algae which are used as food.
