Dry ice is used in the refrigeration of food items.

Solution

  • Dry ice is just a cooled and condensed form of Carbon dioxide(CO2).
  • Once it reaches room temperature and pressure, it expands i.e. it skips the melting process and sublimates directly into Carbon dioxide gas(CO2).
  • Dry Ice is manufactured by compressing and cooling gaseous CO2 under high pressure to initially produce liquid CO2.
  • Due to its extremely low temperature of -78°c, dry ice is often used as an alternative to refrigeration for foodstuffs and medical supplies.
