Solution

Mixture - When two or more substances are mixed physically in any variable proportion in such a way that they retain their individual properties is called a mixture.

For example - Air, sand, and seawater.

Air is a mixture of different gases that are present in different proportions.

The composition of air is as follows -

  • Nitrogen - 78%
  • oxygen - 21%
  • carbon dioxide - 0.04%
  • other gases and dust particles - around 1%.

These gases do not react with each other under normal conditions and can be separated by various physical methods. Hence, air is a mixture.
