Open in App
Solution

Sublimation – The process of converting a substance from the solid-state directly into the gaseous state without forming an intermediate liquid state is called sublimation.

For example - Ammonium chloride, Camphor, and Naphthalene balls undergo sublimation.

Reasons for using sublimation process for separation of Ammonium chloride and sand-

  • Ammonium chloride is a sublimable substance so it can undergo sublimation and hence can be separated.
  • Sand on the other hand is non-sublimable and does not sublime under the action of heat.
