Give reasons why :
(a) Earth is the only planet that supports life.
(b) The atmosphere is called the earth’s protective shell.
(c) The quantity of ice on earth remains the same.
(d) Sea water is saline.
(e) The earth’s resources are becoming scarce.
(f) We must use natural resources with great thrift.
(a) Earth is the only planet that supports life because it has a suitable temperature for living organisms along with the presence of oxygen and water that is required for the survival of all life forms.
(b) The atmosphere is known as Earth’s protective shell as it absorbs the harmful and excess light rays coming from the Sun. Thus, it protects the living organisms on the Earth.
(c) The quantity of ice on the Earth remains the same because melting and formation of ice is a continuous process.
(d) When the river meets the sea, it drains all sand, salt particles and minerals into the sea. Sea water evaporates leaving behind the salt, which in turn, makes the sea water saline.
(e) The Earth’s resources are becoming scarce because of the increasing population and their continuously increasing demands. Humans have overexploited the resources to fulfill their unnecessary needs and now the resources are on the verge of extinction. Hence, there is a great need for the sustainable use of the resources.
(f) We must use the natural resources with great thrift in order to conserve them for future generations. Also these resources determine the economical conditions of a country. If they get depleted the economy of the country will be destabilized.
