In some women, beard and moustache growth is seen. This condition is called adrenal virilism.
Adrenal virilism occurs when the adrenal glands start secreting excess androgen-a male hormone.
Increased androgen secretion results from excessive secretion of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) by the pituitary to compensate for reduced secretion of glucocorticoids.
