Testes:

  1. Testes are the primary sex organs of the male reproductive system.
  2. It produces sperms and the hormone called testosterone.
  3. The hormone controls the formation and maintenance of secondary sex organs as well as external sexual characteristics of the male.

Testes are present in scrotum:

  1. Testes lie outside the body in a two-chamber pouch of loose skin called the scrotum.
  2. The scrotum acts as a thermoregulator. It keeps the temperature of the testes about 2°C lower than that of the body temperature.
  3. A low temperature is necessary for sperm formation and their survival. Hence, testes are present in the scrotum.
