Solution

Artery:

  1. Arteries are one kind of blood vessel.
  2. Arteries transport blood (oxygenated blood) away from the heart to the different parts of the body.
  3. The Wall of the artery is thick and its lumen is narrow.

Figure: Cross-section of the artery

The heart pumps blood in a rhythmic manner (Contraction and relaxation).

Blood flows in arteries in spurts and under pressure because they carry (oxygenated) blood which is pumped out from the heart (Ventricle) with force. This pressure helps the blood to reach every part of the body.
