Gastrulation: During embryonic development, the process by which blastula (single layer of cells) is converted into gastrula (multiple layers of cells) is termed as gastrulation.
SIGNIFICANCE:
a) It marks the beginning of morphogenesis and differentiation.
b) Metabolic activities of the cells are increased due to great morphogenetic activities of the blastomeres.
c) Three primary germ layers are formed.
d) Blastocoel is obliterated and archenteron is formed.
