· Sodium hydroxide [NaOH] is used in the manufacture of soap.
· Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)₂] is used in the manufacture of bleaching powder.
· Magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)₂] is used as an 'antacid' to neutralize excess acid in the stomach and cure indigestion.
· Sodium carbonate [Na₂CO₃] is used as washing soda and for softening hard water.
· Sodium hydrogen carbonate [NaHCO₃] is used as baking soda in cooking food.
· Ammonium hydroxide [NH₄OH] is used to remove grease stains from clothes
