Solution

Dissolving:

  • The process of mixing a solid, liquid or gas uniformly with another substance to form a solution is called dissolving.
  • When two substance dissolve in each other, the substance present in small quantity is known as solute and the substance present in larger quantity is called solvent.
  • Solids dissolving in water is a physical change. The entire process can be reversed by the evaporation.
  • Depending on the nature of the solute, while dissolving, heat may be given out or absorbed. For example, dissolving detergent powder in water is exothermic but dissolving common salt (Sodium chloride/NaCl) in water is endothermic reaction.
