Question

Give the balanced chemical equations for the reaction of dilute sulphuric acid with:

NaCl

Open in App
Solution

1. Balanced chemical reaction

In any balanced chemical reaction, both charge, as well as mass, is balanced on the two sides of the reaction. Also, the number of atoms on both sides of the reactions is equal.

2. Reaction of Sulphuric acid H2SO4 with Sodium chloride NaCl

When dilute Sulphuric acid H2SO4 reacts with Sodium chloride NaCl then the products that are formed are a salt referred to as Sodium sulphate Na2SO4 and an acid called Hydrochloric acid HCl.

The balanced chemical equation is shown below:

2NaCl(aq)+H2SO4(aq)Na2SO4(aq)+2HCl(aq)SodiumSulphuricSodiumHydrochloricchlorideacidsulphateacid
