Question

Give the balanced chemical equations for the reaction of dilute sulphuric acid with:

NaHCO3

Open in App
Solution

1. Balanced chemical equation

A balanced chemical equation is defined as an equation in which the total number of atoms is equal on both sides of the reaction.

2. Reaction of Sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3) with Sulphuric acid H2SO4

When dilute Sulphuric acid H2SO4 is added to Sodium hydrogen carbonate NaHCO3 then the salt named Sodium sulphate Na2SO4 is formed along with by-products such as Water H2O and Carbon dioxide CO2.

The reaction is depicted as:

2NaHCO3(aq)+H2SO4(aq)Na2SO4(aq)+2H2O(l)+2CO2SodiumSulphuricSodiumWaterCarbonhydrogenacidsulphatedioxidecarbonate
