Question

Give the balanced equations for the following reactions

(i) Dilute Nitric acid and Copper carbonate

(ii) Silver nitrate solution and Sodium chloride solution

Open in App
Solution

Part 1: Dilute Nitric acid and Copper carbonate

  1. CuCO3(s)(Coppercarbonate)+2HNO3(aq)(Nitricacid)Cu(NO3)2(aq)(Coppernitrate)+H2O(l)(Water)+CO2g(Carbondioxide)
  2. Adding Copper carbonate and dilute Nitric acid gives Copper nitrate and water, and Carbon dioxide is liberated.

Part 2: Silver nitrate solution and Sodium chloride solution

  1. AgNO3(aq)(Silvernitrate)+NaCl(aq)(Sodiumchloride)AgCls()(Silverchloride)+NaNO3(aq)(Sodiumnitrate)
  2. Adding Silver nitrate solution and Sodium chloride solution gives white ppt of Silver chloride and Sodium nitrate.

Therefore, balanced chemical equations are:-

  1. CuCO3(s)(Coppercarbonate)+2HNO3(aq)(Nitricacid)Cu(NO3)2(aq)(Coppernitrate)+H2O(l)(Water)+CO2g(Carbondioxide)
  2. AgNO3(aq)(Silvernitrate)+NaCl(aq)(Sodiumchloride)AgCls(Silverchloride)+NaNO3(aq)(Sodiumnitrate)
