Give the balanced equations for the preparation of ethanol from monochloroethane and aqueous sodium hydroxide
Preparation of ethanol from Ethyl chloride:
When mol, of monochloroethane or Ethyl chloride reacts with an aqueous alkali base such as sodium hydroxide , it shows substitution of anions, and Ethanol is produced. In this reaction, Sodium chloride is also produced.
Chemical reaction observed:
The following reaction is observed:
Ethyl chloride Ethanol
This reaction is done at room temperature. The alkali base facilitates the substitution reaction and produces Ethanol.
