Question

Give the basicity of

(b) acetic acid.

Open in App
Solution

The number of hydronium ions H3O+aq that is produced per molecule of acid in an aqueous solution is known as its basicity.

The Acetic acid CH3COOHaq produces one hydronium ion H3O+aq when it gets completely dissociated in water.

The reaction is as follows:

CH3COOHaq+H2OlH3O+aq+CH3COO-aq

Therefore, the basicity of Acetic acid is 1.
