Give the biological/technical term for the fluid present in the layers of meninges.

Meninges :

  1. Outside of CNS, three layers of protective tissues (dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater) are present which are referred to as meninges.
  2. The space between the dura mater and arachnoid mater is known as subdural space.
  3. The space between the arachnoid mater and pia mater is known as subarachnoid space. It contains a fluid known as Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF).

Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF):

  1. CSF is a clear and slightly alkaline fluid present in the neurocoele of the central nervous system and central canal of the spinal cord.
  2. It is also present inside the subarachnoid space of the meninges.
  3. The components of CSF are water, plasma proteins, glucose, mineral salt or ions, creatinine, etc.
