Process of conversion of several molecules of glucose to one molecule of starch.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Polymerization is the process through which the conversion of glucose to starch takes place.
  2. Glucose is a crystalline monosaccharide, soluble in water and the simplest form of carbohydrate.
  3. Starch is white, polysaccharide, insoluble in water, and a complex form of glucose.
  4. Glucose is converted into starch by plants through polymerization so that glucose become insoluble and complex.

Hence, starch cannot escape from the cell. Thus it can be stored in a cell as reserve food.
