The pituitary gland is the most important endocrine gland of human beings.
It is also known as the master gland.
Secretion of the pituitary gland regulates the secretion of other endocrine glands.
Different types of hormones are secreted from the anterior and posterior pituitary.
Hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary include TSH(thyroid-stimulating hormone), ACTH(adrenocorticotropic hormone), GTH(gonadotropic hormone), GH(growth hormone), PRL(prolactin), oxytocin, etc.
Location:
The pituitary is located in a depression in the sphenoid bone, called sella turcica.
It is connected below the hypothalamus by the infundibulum (stalk-like structure).
