Mitral valve:

  1. The mitral valve is also referred to as the bicuspid valve as it has two membranous flaps in its structure.
  2. The closing of the mitral valve contributes to the first heart sound or LUBB.
  3. It prevents the flowing back of the oxygenated blood into the left atrium

Location of the mitral valve:

It is located in the aperture that opens the left auricle into the left ventricle or the left auriculo-ventricular aperture.

Hence mitral valve is located in the left auriculo-ventricular aperture.
