  2. This hormone is necessary for human growth and development since it is responsible for forming ovarian follicles, pubertal maturation, and reproductive processes.

Actions of follicle-stimulating hormone:

In females

  1. In females, it assists in alerting the ovaries to make estrogen.
  2. FSH aids in the regulation of the menstrual cycle.
  3. FSH promotes the development of eggs in the ovaries.

In males

  1. FSH stimulates testicular growth and enhances the production of an androgen-binding protein by the Sertoli cells.
  2. FSH helps to regulate sperm production.

In children's

  1. Until puberty, FSH levels are generally low.
  2. It aids in signaling the testes to produce testosterone in boys.
