(a) Afferent nerves - The nerves which transmit information to the central nervous system i.e., to the brain and spinal cord are known as sensory or afferent nerves.
(b) Efferent nerves - The nerves which transmit commands from the central nervous system i.e., from the brain and spinal cord to the various parts of the body are known as efferent nerves.
