Question

Give the importance of chromosomes as hereditary material.

Open in App
Solution

Chromosomes consist of DNA, which is a hereditary or genetic material. The stretches of DNA present in chromosomes are called genes, which are the hereditary units. Egg in female and sperm in male contain chromosomes (DNA) in their nucleus that fuses during fertilisation. Hence, chromosomes are important in transferring the hereditary material from one generation to another.
