Solution

Zn (s) + 2HCl (g) ZnCl2 (s) + H2 (g)

The above reaction conveyed the following informations:

  • It is a single displacement reaction where a non-metal hydrogen is displaced by a metal zinc.
  • Zinc (Zn) is a reductant metal which displaces H2 from aqueous solution of HCl and gives Zinc chloride (ZnCl2) and hydrogen (H2) gas.
  • One atom of zinc reacts with two molecules of hydrochloric acid to give one molecule of zinc chloride and one molecule of hydrogen.
  • One mole of zinc reacts with two moles of hydrochloric acid to give one mole of zinc chloride and 22.4 litres of hydrogen at S.T.P.
