Acetylene (C2H2) is the first member of the alkyne series. IUPAC name of Acetylene is Ethyne (C2H2). Alkynes are hydrocarbons with Carbon-Carbon (C-C) triple bond. They have the root word with suffix ‘-yne’. It comes with the general formula CnH2n-2.

Here, the chain is having 2 Carbon (C) atoms along with Hydrogen atoms (H). So, the root word will be “Eth”
