Radical:

  • Most of the inorganic compounds are made up of two oppositely charged parts called radicals.
  • A radical is defined as an atom or a group of atoms that carries a positive or negative charge and behaves as a single unit in a chemical reaction.
  • For example, Na+,Cl-,S2-,etc.

Compound radical:

  • A compound radicals contain atoms of more than one element and behave as a single unit in a chemical reaction.
  • For example, ammonium( NH4+), sulphate (SO42-),etc.

Thus, SO42- is a compound radical.
