2ZnS + 3O2 Heat 2ZnO + 2SO2Zinc blende Zinc oxide

(b) On heating, zinc oxide is reduced to zinc metal, with carbon (coke) as a reducing agent.

ZnO + C heat Zn + COZinc oxide Zinc

(c) Along with zinc compound, coke (carbon) is added into the furnace.
