Solution

Postulates of Kinetic molecular theory:

  • Matter in general is made up of very small particles commonly known as atoms or molecules.
  • Similar kinds of matter have simial constituents.
  • There exist the space between molecules of matter and the space is known as intermolecular space.
  • The force of attraction between the molecules holds them together and the force is known as the intermolecular force of attraction.
  • The particles in the matter are always in random motion which means they possess kinetic energy.

The process of melting on the basis of this theory:

  • Kinetic energy increases with increases in temperature.
  • This increase in temperature will provide help in overcoming the force of attraction between molecules.
  • As the molecules in the matter overcome the force of attraction they start moving freely.
  • A point will be reached where the solid will melt.
