Question

Give the relation between atomic number and atomic mass of light elements?

Open in App
Solution

  • For light elements, Atomic mass is double the Atomic number
  • Atomic mass(A) = 2 x Atomic number(Z)
  • Therefore, can be written as A = 2Z (n=p)

Example :

Carbon (C) is a light element

Atomic number of Carbon = 6

Atomic mass of Carbon = 2 x 6 = 12 amu (amu =Atomic mass unit)
